Scratch-Building This Week on The AR-15 Podcast

DeKalb, Illinois - Reed Snyder, J.W. Ramp, and Anthony Hardy bring you this week's episode of the AR-15 Podcast. This week, the guys cover a topic that many listeners find to be one of the core of the entire show--how to build an Ar-15 from scratch. Obviously, a topic of this magnitude requires more than one episode, so this is the first of those installments.

Part I of the How-To series focuses exclusively on the lower half of the rifle. For first time builders, the lower receiver is of critical importance. It is the only serialized item that must be transferred by an FFL if not purchased from a private individual. For many, that is where the rifle begins and sets the tone for the rest of the components. Other major segments of the episode cover the lower parts kit, fire control group, butt stock and grip components, and the often overlooked buffer system. First timers will find a trove of information about how to select and source parts for an assembled lower receiver. Additionally, some common pitfalls and things to look out for are on the agenda.

Apart from the stripped lower, the items that require most consideration are the fire control group. What type of trigger do you want? It's a common question for first time builders. The answer really depends on what you want your rifle to do. Tune in to find out about this tiny but crucial part of your build!
