Indiana DNR to Honor Preservation Standouts

Standouts in preserving cultural resources will be presented with 2015 Indiana Historic Preservation Awards at the statewide historic preservation conference this week in Kokomo.

The DNR Division of Historic Preservation & Archaeology will present the awards during the "Preserving Historic Places" banquet at the Kokomo Country Club on Wednesday, April 22.

The division presents awards annually to recognize outstanding efforts in historic preservation and archaeology. As the State Historic Preservation Office, the division oversees the federally funded Historic Preservation Fund grant program, the Reinvestment Historic Tax Credit program, and the state Historic Homeowner Tax Credit program. The agency also functions as the central repository for historic structure and archaeological site records.

The awards to be presented are:

Indiana Archaeology Award: To archaeologist Kira Kaufmann for promoting the preservation, interpretation and management of Indiana's archaeological shipwrecks.

Outstanding Grant-Assisted Rehabilitation Award: To the town of North Liberty for rehabilitating the 1930sWorks Progress Administration stonework in North Liberty Town Park.

Outstanding Grant-Assisted Rehabilitation Award: To the St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities for rehabilitating 53 windows in the former Holy Trinity Rectory in New Albany.

Outstanding Commercial Rehabilitation Award: To the Historic Rushton LP composed of the South Bend Heritage Foundation, Inc. & Great Lakes Capital Fund Non-Profit Housing Corporation for the Historic Rushton Senior Apartments in South Bend. The award recognizes one of more than 30 Certified Historic Preservation Investment Tax Credit projects DHPA administers each year.

Outstanding Certified Historic Homeowner Rehabilitation Award: To Karen and Ryan Haynes for their rehabilitation of the John A. Ross House in Frankfort.
