Annual Outdoor Heritage Day in Palisade, Colorado This Saturday

PALISADE, Colo. – Kids and families looking for a little outdoor adventure are reminded that the Eighth Annual Outdoor Heritage Day will take place at Riverbend Park in Palisade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 25.

Over 40 agencies, businesses and organizations will be at the event, ready to provide information, guidance and support for outdoor adventurers.

"We have one goal, and that is to encourage everyone to get off the couch, away from the TV and have fun in a natural environment," said event organizer Ryan Swygman, District Wildlife Manager for CPW. "Outdoor Heritage Day is designed to demonstrate many of the different activities kids and families can do outdoors."

A variety of exhibits and educational activities will be featured, including boating safety, fishing, hunting, wildlife management, bow and firearms safety, gold panning, tying flies and watching wildlife.

"We have a good mix of activities at the event," said Swygman. "There is something for everyone."

A popular attraction each year, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will stock the park's pond with plenty of large trout ready to be caught. Bring your own fishing gear or kids can earn their own rod and reel at the event by participating in a short fishing clinic.

Event organizers will provide a free, hotdog lunch for participants from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dress for variable weather and be sure to pack snacks, sunscreen and water.

CPW is an enterprise agency, relying primarily on license sales, state parks fees and registration fees to support its operations including 42 state parks and more than 350 wildlife areas covering approximately 900,000 acres, big-game management, hunting, fishing, wildlife watching, camping, motorized and non-motorized trails, boating and outdoor education. CPW's work contributes approximately six billion dollars in total economic impact annually throughout Colorado.
