Annual Mounds SP Geocache Adventure, April 11

Unlock clues about Mounds State Park's unique ecosystems during its annual geocaching event on Saturday, April 11.

The event's theme is "The River, Forest and Fen." Participants will be led on a GPS scavenger hunt to sites where unique plants and animals are often seen.

Fifteen geocaches will be hidden throughout the park. Geocachers will traverse a multitude of paths, including Trail 5 along the White River. Participants will be able to view the park's fen from the trail, but should not enter the ecologically sensitive area.

The event will end with a chili dump and pitch-in lunch at 1 p.m. Participants can bring pre-cooked or canned chili, beans or other appropriate ingredients to add to a kettle at the beginning of the day. The kettle will simmer over a fire during the event.

Other suggested pitch-in items include crackers, cornbread, chili toppings, soda and dessert. The event will end with lunch and prizes.

A limited number of GPS units are available to borrow. Beginners are welcome. Participants should meet at the park pavilion by 10 a.m. to register and to add their chili to the kettle.

A $2 per person event fee applies. Standard park entry fees of $5 per in-state vehicle and $7 per out-of-state vehicle apply.

Mounds State Park (stateparks.IN.gov/2977.htm) is at 4306 Mounds Road, Anderson, 46017.
