The University of North Alabama Grasps the Number One Position

University of Alabama and University of South Carolina are in Second and Third Respectively.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The 2015 Cabela's School of the Year race is coming into the most heated stretch of the season - the beginning of the 2015 Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series which consists of four nationally televised events, each worth double Cabela's School of the Year Points.

The current standings show that the University of North Alabama Lion Bass Team have what it takes to hold on to their 2014 Cabela's School of the Year title as they remain in the number one spot with a twenty point lead over the second place school and Lion Bass Team neighbor, the University of Alabama. Rounding out the top five are the University of South Carolina in third, Mississippi State University in fourth, and University of Louisiana Monroe coming in at number five.

With over 280 schools in the field of competition, the Cabela's School of the Year title is the largest title that can be earned in the ever-expanding world of college fishing. Schools not only have to bring their A' game to one tournament or even one series a year, rather schools have to be the best at every event throughout the year, making this title the most difficult, yet most prestigious award in the sport and the University of North Alabama is hungry for their second consecutive title.

A majority of the season's points will be earned in the four Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series double points events, meaning that two teams from each school will be able to earn points for their team, as opposed to just one team; however, this coming weekend, February 28-March 1, there will be four school run tournaments spread out across the nation– two of which will be counted towards the Cabela's School of the Year race. "This is really when we see a lot of teams shoot from the lower ranks of the Cabela's School of the Year rankings up to the top," said Wade Middleton, Director of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and President of CarecoTV. "We get to see a lot of great involvement from schools that host sanctioned events and we also get to see a ton of new and returning schools fish in the Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series events to compete for ultimate goal of the Cabela's School of the Year title."

Four tournaments in one weekend is a rare occurrence and a big weekend in the sport. Teams are now presented with the questions like which tournaments will they send teams to, how many possible points can they earn, and of course, how many resources will each tournament take from the club? As current rankings show the top teams in the nation at this moment, this weekend's events could drastically change the standings.

"The University of North Alabama has done a great job throughout this year in fighting to stay on top of the leaderboard, but with as many new school sanctioned events as there are along with the addition of the Collegiate Bass Texas Shootout on Lake Texoma in April, the Cabela's School of the Year title is definitely still anyone's game," Middleton added.

· Collegiate Bass Fishing Open – April 17-19, 2015 –Lake Chickamauga – Dayton, Tennessee
· The Collegiate Bass Texas Shootout – April 25-26, 2015 – Lake Texoma – Denison, Texas
· BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship – May 20-22, 2015 - Pickwick Lake – Florence, Alabama
