Hunting Seasons Wind Down, Show Season Cranks Up

As the Texas general hunting seasons wind down, hunters and anglers are turning their attention to hunting, fishing and boating shows across the state.

The Dallas Safari Club show just wrapped up, and many boating and fishing shows are going on this month in Texas. In this issue of Lone Star Outdoor News, we preview the upcoming shows and take a look at trends going on that show-goers are talking about. Lone Star Outdoor News is available today on newsstands and online at LSONews.com.

Also in this issue, the fever tick quarantine zone along the South Texas border has been expanded due to officials finding fever ticks in Cameron and Willacy counties. The expansion will have an impact on hunters harvesting nilgai and white-tailed deer in the quarantine areas. Read about the new mandatory regulations in this issue.

In fishing, winter spotted seatrout don't feed as much, but when they do, they like to eat bigger baits. Read about what is working, along with a current pier report from up and down the Texas coast in this issue of LSON.

In hunting, we recap the Texas waterfowl seasons heading into the final few weeks and give a goose and duck hunting report. Also, we tell the story of a duck with one of the most unique bands anyone will ever see, and a young hunter facing major challenges in life takes a trophy buck on a hunt with the Lone Star Outdoor News Foundation.

In fishing, we look at the early white bass run on border lakes and rivers, along with great fishing reports from around the state.

As always, we have the most accurate fishing reports and our popular Game Warden Blotter recounting tales of some of the dumbest poachers in the state.
