December Events At The Calvert Marine Museum

Tuesday, December 2 and Thursday, December 4 & 11 - Sea Squirts

10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Surviving Winter: We survive the cold by turning up the heat and putting on more clothes. What do animals do? Investigate different ways animals use to survive the cold, play games and pretend to be a bird flying south or a bear hibernating for the winter. Free drop-in program for toddlers 18 months - 3 years old and their caregivers.


Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 - Solomons Christmas Walk

The museum is open and free to the public from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Enjoy musical entertainment, refreshments, Santa, the Otter, holiday crafts, and shopping in the Museum Store on both nights. Santa's Coffee House will be open on Saturday with complimentary hot tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and holiday cookies. Museum members will save 20% off in the Store all weekend!


Sunday, December 7 - Members' Only Yule Party

12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Spend time with friends; shop in the museum store, and visit with special guests, Squeak the River Otter and Santa. Admission to the party is a contribution of your favorite holiday fare on a disposable dish. CMM will provide drinks and sweets.


Sunday December 14 & 21 - Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshop

Sessions at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Register at the admissions desk on program day. Space is limited; $4.00 fee per child.


Thursday, December 18 - Little Minnows

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Hide and Seek: Many animals can hide in plain sight from predators or curious humans by using camouflage. Discover the techniques animals use to survive through games, movement, and stories. For children age 3 - 5 and their caregivers. Fee is $4 for members and $5 for non-members.


Monday, December 22 - Ornament Workshop

Sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Make holiday ornaments to adorn your Christmas trees. Register at the admissions desk on program day. Space is limited; fee is $4.00 per child.


Tuesday, December 23 - Winter Wishes

What are your hopes and wishes for the New Year? Make a paper ornament with your secret wish written inside to hang in the Discovery Room. Ongoing program throughout the day; free with museum admission.


Thursday, December 25 - Christmas Day

MUSEUM CLOSED


Friday, December 26 - Chesapeake Critters

Learn about the amazing animals in our aquarium. Free with museum admission. Check daily events schedule at the admissions desk.


Saturday, December 27 - Toy Boat Building

Join us from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. to build a toy boat and take home! $2 donation requested with museum admission.


Monday, December 29 - Snow Globe Workshop

Join us from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Harms Gallery. Make snow globes out of recycled materials. Free with museum admission.


Tuesday, December 30 - Chesapeake Critters

Wednesday, December 31 - NOON Year's Eve Party

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon in the Harms Gallery. Make a party hat, New Year's Wish Ornament, hear a special story, and join the dance party with Squeak. Toast in the NOON Year with sparkling ginger ale and fishy snacks when the ball drops at high noon. Fee is $2 per child with museum admission. For all ages.


The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, military with valid I.D. and AAA members, and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free.
