South Carolina Outdoor Press Honors Charter Members, Biologist

The South Carolina Outdoor Press Association (SCOPe) bestowed special honors on three charter members and one of the state's top wildlife biologists at the organization's 27th annual conference Oct. 18 in Seneca, S.C.

SCOPe is an organization of writers, editors, photographers, media producers and authors dedicated to a high standard of professionalism and ethics in communicating about the outdoors in South Carolina.

Jim Casada and Bennett Kirkpatrick, both of Rock Hill, and Terry Madewell of Ridgeway, SC who helped organize the association, were honored with Lifetime Memberships. The three were recognized for their long-term commitment to reporting on the natural resources of South Carolina and the sportsmen, land owners and others who enjoy wildlife and fisheries and work to protect and enhance them.

"These three charter members have been leaders in SCOPe and in the general media in increasing public awareness, understanding and appreciation of our outdoor heritage and the proper use of our natural resources, " said Pete Rogers of Greer, Chairman of the Board for the association.

Charles Ruth, the Deer and Turkey Project Supervisor for the S. C. Department of Natural Resources, was recognized for his professionalism and for his willingness to share information and proven documentation about wildlife to all members of the media.

"An Honorary Life Membership was presented to Charles Ruth for his dedication to the wildlife of South Carolina and for his willingness to support members of the South Carolina Outdoor Press Association with their efforts to educate the public on the benefits of wildlife in South Carolina, " Rogers said.
