Predators In The Crosshairs In Game & Fish/sportsman Magazines' Weekend Warrior Deer Camp

Special series covers deer-camp lifestyle in unique editorial project

Marietta, GA- In the November issue of Game & Fish/Sportsman (http://gameandfishmag.com) magazines, writers lay out a plan to take back their Weekend Warrior Deer Camp hunting land from rampant predators.

In the issue, on newsstands now, readers learn about options to manage coyote populations on their hunting lands. Eradication is all but impossible. "The Apaches believe that the last sound on earth will be the howl of hungry coyote, " author Steve Carpenteri writes. But even coyotes might have a place in your deer-management plan, if your buck-to-doe ratio is healthy. If not, Carpenteri proposes several club policies you and your hunting buddies could follow to keep you predator population down and your mature deer herd strong.

The Deer Camp project also explores the pride of the camp: one young boy's first buck kill and his father's delight as the sport flows from one generation to the next. The issue also covers the recipes writers used to prepare backstraps after the successful pursuit of a mature 8-point.

"Weekend Warrior Deer Camp brings the readers into the field and to the campfire, " said Peter Gross, Publisher of Game & Fish/Sportsman magazines. "The series has been extremely popular. Writers have entertained and informed on topics such as planting food plots, managing the herd, hunting strategies and all the camaraderie that goes along with a hunt camp. "

Weekend Warrior Deer Camp is a unique editorial project stemming from a 400-acre parcel of pine, hardwoods and wildlife clearings that deer-crazed magazine writers leased to attract and hold mature bucks. With a limited budget and limited time but plenty of elbow grease, they've been reporting through the June, July-August, September, October and now November issues on how they evaluated land options, picked the most efficient gear, set up a deer camp and showed products that can help turn neglected lease land into productive hunting grounds. The crew recorded it all for the magazine - the successes and failures.

"The goal of our Weekend Warrior Deer Camp, " writes senior editor John Geiger, "has been to help you create quality hunting grounds on your land, lease or hunting club with the least amount of time and money. "

The project appears in the pages of all Southern and Northern editions of the 28-edition magazine.
