Guns & Ammo Resurects "Guns & Ammo of the Year"

Peoria, IL - Some things need to be resurrected, which is why Guns & Ammo is bringing back its "Guns & Ammo of the Year" awards, beginning today. After a 10-year hiatus of the annual awards, Editor Eric Poole believes it is high time to bring a spotlight back on those products that are head-and-shoulders above the competition.

G&A is honoring products within six categories: Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, Suppressor, Optic and Ammo. All winners along with reviews and testimonials can be found at http://www.gunsandammo.com/ga-of-the-year-awards/

The entire list is also available with more in-depth coverage in the December 2014 issue of Guns & Ammo, due out on newsstands in early November.

"Our staff and contributors met privately to discuss, compare notes and debate in a 'roundtable' fashion every new product introduced within the last calendar year. No one person guided the group in the direction of a single product or company, and no advertisers were invited," said Poole. "If no one had hands-on experience with a product, then we didn't consider it. We are setting the new standard of what it means to win an award of excellence in this industry."

Winners in each category are as follows:
Handgun of the Year: Heckler & Koch VP9 - "The HK VP9 is an abandonment of its hammerguns as a product line and a recognition of advantages presented by striker-fired guns," stated Patrick Sweeney, contributor to G&A. "It is evidence that HK is now willing to make guns not for a German engineer's hands but for the average American."

Rifle of the Year: Ruger American Revolution - "The American Revolution is already offered in seven calibers ranging from .22-250 to .308 to .30-'06, and we doubt this will be the end of this list. We can't wait to see how the aftermarket responds in the next few years, particularly in the way of stocks and optic mounts. (Someone, please make a chassis ...)"

Shotgun of the Year: Benelli Ethos - "This is an heirloom-quality shotgun that possesses a combination of Benelli's latest innovations and refined handling."

Suppressor of the Year: SureFire Ryder .22 - "Combine a new lightweight suppressor design optimized for America's favorite rimfire and you have Guns & Ammo's top pick."

Optic of the Year: Leupold Mark 6 3-18x44 TMR - "This was Guns & Ammo's 'do everything' scope in 2014...and it won again."
Ammo of the Year: Winchester Train & Defend - "Users can expect the same downrange performance and felt recoil impulse when switching between these carry and training rounds."
