Deer Season In Texas In This Week's LSON

November 1 marks the start of the Texas general rifle season for deer, and Texas hunters are ready to hit the woods. Bow season has been a little tough for many hunters but the weather is cooling off and bucks are starting to move. Read about one of the biggest hunting days in Texas in this issue of Lone Star Outdoor News, available today online at LSONews.com and on newsstands.

Although bow season has been a little slow, some hunters have taken some great bucks. Read the cover story about Roel Vela, a deep South Texas hunter who harvested a 250-inch monster buck with a crossbow in early October.

Also in hunting, we ask urban biologists around the state about some of the funniest phone calls they've received from city folks who aren't too sure if that is a house cat or a mountain lion in their garage.

And, this issue features our special Deer Hunting Texas 2104 Annual as an insert.

In fishing, we speak with coastal guides about the newly implemented 5-fish speckled trout limit and how it could be affecting their business.

Also, Amistad International Reservoir is slowly but steadily on the upswing - we talk to local anglers about the improving conditions and what it means for largemouth bass anglers in what was once one of the best bass lakes in the world.

Finally, in this issue we discuss two of the best team trail anglers in the state, eyeworms in bobwhite quail, a new world-record axis buck, a huge spinner shark caught on the coast and much more.

As always, we have the most accurate fishing reports and our popular Game Warden Blotter recounting tales of some of the dumbest poachers in the state.
