Shooting Competition to Raise $1 Million for SF Charitable Trust

WHAT:The inaugural Remington Great American Shoot (RGAS) event kicks-off this Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Cypress Valley Shooting Preserve just north of Austin. This national shoot, sponsored by Remington Arms and The Special Forces Charitable Trust (SFCT), brings together competitors from all over the country to honor and bring attention to the needs of our finest military warriors and their families.

RGAS is a totally unique and new-format shoot that is guaranteed to result in some amazing fun and competition and most importantly, the support goes directly to our soldiers.

The format is simple - 20 teams of 5 shooters will shoot at 50 clay pigeons. Using a fundraising site, DoJiggy, each shooter solicits a pledge of $5 from friends, family, and business associates for EACH BIRD THEY ACTUALLY BREAK. Individual and team champions will be named and the single shooter that raises the most amount of money in pledges will be the named the "winner" of the shoot. The grand prize for the top fund raiser is a customized 2014 Jeep Rubicon.

Each team is led by a "varied" team captain. A few of this year's list of captains: Mr. Top Secret who is the first Captain volunteer and a renowned American, author, soldier and philanthropist. His name isn't publically releasable but you'll definitely know him; Jim Porter, the new President of the National Rifle Association, and Laura Berry, an 84-year-old hotshot shooter, construction magnate and renowned philanthropist. Other team captains include international financiers, Marines, a "Beauty and the Neast" team, doctors, bankers and others representing from CO, FL, NY, WY, CA, DC and more. Additionally, each team will have a "6th Man Shooter" who is a volunteer active-duty service member or veteran selected to represent their service branch at the shoot, and of course, laugh at the misses.
