NEW BERLIN, WI - J. Alain Smith, host of Sportsman Channel's Rugged Expeditions, has been on the hunt for the elusive African kudu for the last six years. This year, Smith is hunting in the rising heat of Tanzania, Africa, hoping to catch a glimpse of a prized kudu. If a hunter mentions spiraled horns and a sneaky demeanor, he or she might be talking about the African kudu. Smith's hunt for kudu is six years in the making, but the mountains of Tanzania pose a daunting challenge. Without proper planning, the steep and deceptive landscape could leave Smith empty-handed for a seventh year.

"Maybe it's because - in my heart - I'm a goat hunter and a wild sheep hunter. No matter where I go hunting, I love getting the advantage of altitude," said Smith. "There's nothing better than crawling up to a high point and looking down and seeing everything that's going on below you."
