National Park Service Employee Spotlighted

Brooklyn Center, MN -Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!® (SAH!) is pleased to announce Carmen Chapin as the July, Partner in Action. Carmen is the Program Coordinator of the Great Lakes Exotic Plant Management Team and proudly supports SAH! throughout the National Park Service.

"All natural areas are impacted in some way or another by invasive species. While on the ground control work is important in preserving and/or restoring these ecosystems, we are not going to win the war without active public participation in preventing the additional spread of harmful species," Chapin said.

Serving as an active member of the Northwoods Cooperative Weed Management Area and on the Board of Directors of the Midwest Invasive Plant Network, Carmen knows well the threats invasive species pose on public lands. In times of declining outdoor participation, preventing invasives has taken on dual roles to not only protect but also enable open access to our natural resources.

"A cooperative effort is key to making a difference in the struggle against invasive species. Wildlife Forever and the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers! program is a great partner in helping take the message of responsible stewardship to a national level," said Chapin.

"Carmen has been invaluable in supporting SAH! outreach and education that reaches millions of boaters and anglers each year. We look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts for the betterment of America's National Parks," said Pat Conzemius, Conservation Director for Wildlife Forever.
