Yamaha Outdoors Sponsoring National Hunting And Fishing Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- - National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF Day) is pleased to announce that Yamaha Outdoors has once again signed on as a sponsor for 2014. This year's NHF Day is scheduled for September 27, 2014.

NHF Day is set-aside to celebrate the conservation efforts of sportsmen and women each year. The continued support of sponsors like Yamaha goes a long way to promote conservation of wetlands, streams and public properties that we all enjoy.

This is the seventh year Yamaha has sponsored NHFD, and to honor this milestone, Yamaha is giving away the most off-road capable and hardest working prize ever at: www.yamahaoutdoors.com/nhfday. The sweepstakes is being promoted at NHFD events nationwide and anyone can enter to win by simply registering online through the end of October 2014.

"Every year Yamaha Outdoors looks forward to being a part of National Hunting and Fishing Day for its focus on providing a positive environment for outdoors enthusiasts throughout the country," said Steve Nessl, marketing manager for Yamaha's ATV/SxS group. "Yamaha is proud to continue our partnership with NHFD and is excited to give away one of the new Vikings in support of outdoors education and conservation."

The first to suggest an official day of thanks to sportsmen was Ira Joffe, owner of Joffe's Gun Shop in Upper Darby, Pa. In 1970, Pennsylvania Gov. Raymond Shafer adopted Joffe's idea and created "Outdoor Sportsman's Day" in the state.

With determined prompting from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the concept soon emerged on the floor of the U.S. Senate. In June 1971, Sen. Thomas McIntyre, N.H., introduced Joint Resolution 117 authorizing National Hunting and Fishing Day on the fourth Saturday of every September. Rep. Bob Sikes, Fla., introduced an identical measure in the House. In early 1972, Congress unanimously passed both bills.

"NHF Day is important to bring recognition to our efforts in conservation. Yamaha is always looking to protect what outdoorsmen love," said Misty Mitchell, Director of Conservation Programs Wonders of Wildlife. "Their continued support goes a long way to bring awareness to conservation efforts by sportsmen and women around the country."

Every U.S. President from Richard Nixon through Barack Obama has issued official proclamations of support for the annual commemoration, now recognized as one of the most effective grassroots campaigns ever undertaken to promote traditional outdoor sports.

The list of sponsors for National Hunting and Fishing Day 2014 includes Wonders of Wildlife, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Bass Pro Shops, Realtree, Yamaha Outdoors, GunBroker.com, Izaak Walton League, Ducks Unlimited, Scout, Limit Out Productions, National Wild Turkey Foundation, Smith & Wesson and Outdoor Channel.
