Nashville, TN-The Union Sportsmen's Alliance's award-winning hunting and fishing TV show, Brotherhood Outdoors, will feature a Florida Keys deep sea fishing adventure with Fishing for Freedom founder and retired electrical worker Leroy Shull at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, January 20 on Sportsman Channel.
Fishing for tarpon, grouper and other big game saltwater fish may be a far cry from the white bass of Missouri's Truman Lake, but it's just as therapeutic for Shull, who has dedicated the last several years to helping veterans readjust to civilian life.
A second-generation IBEW member, Shull along with his brothers and sisters at IBEW Local 124 in Kansas City, has spent countless hours organizing yearly events like Fishing for Freedom to help veterans and wounded soldiers enjoy time out on the water.
"Leroy is passionate about bringing joy to other people's lives," said Brotherhood Outdoors Co-host Daniel Lee Martin. "Inviting him to be a guest on Brotherhood Outdoors for his very first saltwater fishing trip was a great way to return some of that joy to a deserving angler."
Shot in some of the most prestigious waters off the U.S. coast, the episode gives viewers an intimate glimpse into the trials, tribulations and joy of a first time deep sea angler. Shull tackles each fish like it is his first and flawlessly handles the physical and mental challenges of deep sea fishing, while sharing his incredible passion for fishing and story with the world.
"We are honored to reward Shull's commitment to America's veterans with a fishing trip on Brotherhood Outdoors," said USA Executive Director and CEO Fred Myers. "Leroy's commitment to his union, community and America's heroes is a true testament to what the show is all about."
Winner of a 2012 Sportsman Choice award, Brotherhood Outdoors awards union sportsmen and women who are committed to preserving North America's outdoor heritage with a guided trip or the opportunity to show off their guiding skills and local hunting or fishing destinations on national TV.
Presented by Bank of Labor, Brotherhood Outdoors is also sponsored by Employee Benefit Solutions, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Electrical Contractors Association, United Association/International Training Fund as well as Buck Knives and Burris/Steiner Optics.
See what happens when a 60-year-old, retired IBEW worker goes saltwater fishing for the first time. Tune in to Brotherhood Outdoors at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, January 20 on Sportsman Channel.
