California Man Sentenced for Attempting to Stab Game Warden
A Klamath man was sentenced on Thursday, Oct. 18 in Humboldt County Superior Court to two years in state prison for attempting to stab a game warden.
Brandon Jon Proctor, 25, earlier pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon.
On Sept. 25, 2012, while investigating an unrelated elk poaching incident in Orick, Warden Paul Weldon was flagged down by a frantic couple with a flat tire. The motorists pointed to Proctor and shouted that Proctor had slashed their tire with a knife.
Warden Weldon stopped to assist them and attempted to detain Proctor.
Proctor attempted to stab Weldon with a hunting knife. Weldon was able to disarm Proctor and take him into custody.
The motorists told Weldon that Proctor threatened them with the knife. Proctor had a prior felony conviction for assault.
