This Saturday, October 13th, the Catfish Nation and Chappy's Outdoors will host wounded warriors pursuing monster-sized catfish on the historic Potomac River just south of downtown Washington D.C. The tournament is scheduled to launch out of the Fort Washington Marina at approximately 7:30 am. This year's event is shaping up to be the largest ever to take place since these two organizations joined missions nearly 5 years ago.
In October of 2008, the Catfish Nation partnered with Chaplain Jeremiah Catlin to take some of our nation's wounded warriors on a fishing trip that they would never forget. The partnership was never planned, but destiny intervened. The Chaplain organized an outing with a small bass tournament series that fell through in the final week. Tim Hagan, president of the Catfish Nation, took up the charge and invited all the warriors to go out with his tournament trail of experienced catfish anglers. The first tournament sported almost a dozen warriors catching several fish over 40 and 50 lbs. More importantly, it produced zeal and passion within the whole organization that has grown over the past few years. The Catfish Nation now hosts two annual events with this weekend's event scheduled to support over 50 warriors...the organization's largest event to date!
The tournament rules have the warriors bring back their best single catfish of the day for weigh-in and pics. The top four finishers in last October's event weighed in fish at over 50 lbs each. Every single warrior in the event brought back at least one catfish with most weighing in over 30 lbs. The tournament will conclude close to 1:30 pm with a catered lunch for the participants and, of course, time to re-live the ones that got away!
