MISSOULA, Mont. - Outdoor Writers Association of America has selected their top three potential host locations for the 2015 annual conference.
After reviewing numerous proposals, OWAA Executive Director Robin Giner and Conference Coordinator Jessica Pollett narrowed the field of potential locations to host the 2015 conference to: McAllen, Texas; Casper, Wyo.; and Reno, Nev.
During the past few years, OWAA has made an effort to move their annual conferences more systematically around the country in order to best reach their diverse and widespread membership. Having scheduled the next two conferences in the eastern U.S., the 2015 search focused on bids received from the central and western regions of the country. All of the 2015 short list locations offer a variety of unique outdoor activities and opportunities for members to explore and enjoy.
Reno has played host to a number of outdoor and conservation gatherings during the past several years, including the Safari Club and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, offering a great combination of affordable meeting packages, ease of travel, and convenient proximity to outdoor recreation in and around the Sierra Nevada.
McAllen, a host to OWAA back in 1964, offers world-class birding, great local Texas flavor and close access to fishing and boating opportunities on the Rio Grande and in the Gulf of Mexico.
A great access point for experiencing the West, Casper also specializes in affordable conferences while offering fishing, mountain biking and hiking opportunities as well as pioneer trails, cowboy history and several western monuments and national parks.
Giner and Pollett will visit the short list locations in October and November in an effort to better understand how each of the locations will benefit OWAA members. Based on the facilities, as well as local partners and outdoor opportunities found at each location, a 2015 conference site will be selected and announced following the January 2013 OWAA board meeting.
