Eagle Point Wildlife Area Dedication Set
On Friday, August 10, 2012, a public celebration and dedication of the Eagle Point Wildlife Management Area at Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) will be held in Derby. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point property at 2 Woodlawn Avenue, Derby, Vermont ("Dunn Farm Road" on Google Maps).

The dedication will honor the late Michael Dunn, who generously created the opportunity for public ownership of his entire outstanding property, over 850 acres bisected by the Vermont-Quebec border on the east shore of Lake Memphremagog. In 2009-2010, a partnership consisting of Community Financial Services Group (Trustee of Michael Dunn), Vermont Agency of Natural Resources / Fish & Wildlife Department (ANR/F&W), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Vermont Land Trust worked together to ensure the 457 acres in the U.S. would continue to serve as a treasured local resource. The property donated to the U.S. government was accepted by the USFWS as a unit of the Missisquoi NWR, and is managed by the Vermont ANR/F&W as a Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

The WMA property includes 183 acres of wetland, 54 acres of woodland, 220 acres of productive agricultural land, and more than 6,300 feet of frontage on beautiful Lake Memphremagog.

Please join us to celebrate this new public resource and the generosity of the man who made it possible. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Rebecca Elder at 802-262-1214 or rebecca@vlt.org.
