Vermont Sets Bear Hunting Seminar for August 18

Experienced hunters know that bear hunting is very difficult, and that it usually takes many hours, and sometimes years, of dedicated hunting effort just to see a bear. Often, success comes only after a hunter thoroughly learns all they can about bears. Personnel at the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department are hoping a special course on bear hunting will improve the knowledge of first-time bear hunters.

The department is holding a "Getting Started in Bear Hunting" seminar at the Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area in West Addison on Saturday, August 18, 2012.

"Bears are very challenging to hunt, but hunters who know where to look can improve their success rate," says John Pellegrini, Vermont Hunter Education Training Coordinator.

Forrest Hammond, the department's bear biologist, will be leading presentations on bear biology, hunting tactics, regulations, and sharing a few recipes. Members of The Vermont Bear Hound Association will also be on hand to talk about the use of hounds in bear hunting.

The seminar will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You are encouraged to bring a lunch. There is no charge for the seminar.
