CONCORD, N.H. -- Summer is a great time to get the kids involved in outdoor activities, and there's still room in two July sections at the overnight summer camp program for youth at Barry Conservation Camp in Milan, New Hampshire. The camp is operated by UNH Cooperative Extension 4-H and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
The week of July 8-13 is "All about Fishing," for boys and girls age 10-16, where kids can learn to fish or sharpen their angling skills. Novice anglers will get the basics of catching fish, while campers with more experience will improve their fishing skills and learn new ones like fly fishing. Everyone has a chance to put their fishing skills to the test on a special daylong outing to a nearby lake. Campers also will enjoy traditional summer camp activities like hiking, swimming, canoeing and camaraderie around the campfire.
There's also room in the July 29-August 3 session called "Wild Side II," an exciting week of outdoor adventure for youth age 12-16 (boys and girls). Campers will paddle on a remote lake, explore local wildlife, and learn outdoor survival skills. They'll experience creating a meal from gathered plants and filleting a fish and cooking it over an open fire, plus enjoy campfires, swimming, hikes and more.
