LINCOLN, Neb. -- iPhone users are now able to access information for all of Nebraska's state parks by downloading the free Pocket Ranger mobile app from iTunes. A bonus for outdoor enthusiasts, the Nebraska State Parks Pocket Ranger mobile app provides the most convenient way to explore what Nebraska's parks have to offer.
The new, customized mobile app provides interactive GPS and GIS Map technology for tracking trails, marking waypoints and locating landmarks. Other features include an events calendar that is updated in real time, social networking capabilities for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and a tool that allows mobile users to publish and share photos. Visitors also are able to locate friends using a Friend Finder feature and can search for specific parks within a particular region or choose to retrieve information from a comprehensive list of all park's activities or events. Detailed facility information and access to guides and regulations can also be easily accessed through Pocket Ranger.
Future plans include a fall release of an expanded application for hunters and anglers, an Android version release and a mobile website format for Blackberry users.
