Spring Mill State Park is seeking applicants for two seasonal positions.
Both positions require a high school diploma, GED or two years work experience, and a valid driver's license. Experience in applicable folkways listed below is preferred. Housing during employment may be available for candidates who live more than 50 miles from the park.
Pay is $9.89 an hour for both positions. The positions are:
Village blacksmith
Duration and hours: April 23-Oct. 20; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
Responsibilities: Demonstrate 1860s blacksmithing and other metalworking techniques to the public using a coal-fired forge and period appropriate tools; produce period-appropriate metalwork items for sale in the village mercantile; maintain cleanliness of the blacksmith shop; dress in provided historic costuming; and participate in special evening events in the village.
Village woodworker
Duration and hours: May 7-Oct. 20; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday through Tuesday.
Responsibilities: Demonstrate 1860s woodworking and coopering crafts and techniques to visitors using period tools; demonstrate a water-driven sawmill to the public; operate and interpret the gristmill to the public two days per week; present cultural history programs to public and private groups; produce period-appropriate woodwork items to sell in the village mercantile; maintain cleanliness of the pioneer village buildings; dress in provided historic costuming; and participate in special evening events in the village.
