Visiting Brown County State Park and climbing sand dunes on Lake Michigan have been named two of the "Top 10 Things for Families to do in Indiana" by family travel website Trekaroo.com.
Trekaroo praises Brown County State Park for its hiking trails, horseback riding, family-friendly nature center, overlook towers, Olympic-size outdoor pool, and Abe Martin Lodge and Aquatic Center.
"Kids will be over the moon" if their visit includes a stay at the Abe Martin Lodge, the website said. The lodge's aquatic center features a zero-entry pool, water slide, water channel, fountains, water volleyball and basketball, and a whirlpool.
Admission to the Aquatic Center is free for guests of the Abe Martin Lodge. Day passes are also available for non-guests, subject to availability, for $15 per person.
Trekaroo also suggests families "climb some sand dunes" at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan. The nearly 2,200-acre Indiana Dunes State Park, located next to the national lakeshore and just north of Chesterton, also offers more than 16 miles of hiking trails through sand dunes, some of them reaching 200 feet above the lake.
