Bellingham, WA -- Author and "Ultimate Hiker" Andrew Skurka has kicked-off a spring speaking tour to promote his new book, "The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide: Tools & Tips to Hit the Trail." The tour will be stopping at 50 locations across the United States until May 31. It begins with a discussion about how to define trip objectives and how to assess the environmental and route conditions that are typically encountered on a backpacking trip, like temperatures and precipitation. Then, Skurka explains exactly what he would bring on a hypothetical multi-day trip, focusing not just on his footwear, shelter, food, and other gear and supplies, but also on critical skills like foot care, campsite selection and food protection techniques.
In the other presentation, Circling Alaska & Yukon, Skurka shares his journey of skiing, hiking and pack rafting 4,700 miles in a giant loop around Alaska and Canada's Yukon.
