(Eagle River, WI) -- The 5th Annual Labatt - USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships has a record 224 teams from 27 States entered in this year's event. It will be again held on Dollar Lake at the event's host site, Eagle River's Chanticleer Inn, February 12, 13 & 14, 2010.
There will be 405 games played over that 3-day period on 24 specially prepared rinks. Games will begin on Friday and Saturday at 10:00am and Sunday at 9:00am. The public is invited to attend any day. There is no admission charge and food and beverages will be available on site.
Additionally, there will be appearances by Neil Broten and Dave Christian, members of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" Olympic Hockey Gold Medal winning team and Lou Vairo, Head Coach of the 1984 Men's Olympic Hockey Team.
All participating players will receive a replica jersey of the 2010 USA Hockey Olympic team. This event will coincide with the 2010 Winter Olympic Games being played from February 12-28 in Vancouver, Canada.
"This is a great winter event for the Eagle River area," stated Conrad Heeg, Executive Director of the Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center.
"While the Chamber has the actual contract with USA Hockey it could not be done without the many hundreds of volunteers that help out ,"said Heeg.
The 24 rinks are built and maintained by the Eagle River Area Fire Department personnel. All refereeing and scorekeeping will be provided by volunteers and organized by the Eagle River Recreational Association-ERRA. If anyone would like to volunteer with scorekeeping or officiating, please contact Bob McDonald or Todd Sanborn at the ERRA (715) 479-4858.
