Athens, Alabama -- For residents of Guntersville and Sand Mountain, the third weekend in September will feature great outdoors entertainment for the entire family---- especially if you like barbeque! To celebrate the two-day Divisional Championship of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series, Guntersville was chosen as the 3rd city in the 5-city cross-country BBQ Tour Sponsored by Early Times Kentucky Whisky.
"Our first two events of the tour have proven to be huge successes with over 15,000 people attending our event in Kentucky", stated Debra Talley, National Marketing Director of American Bass Anglers. "When we were considering sites to hold the events, Guntersville was at the top of our list because of the facilities it offers. The folks in this area are fortunate to have such well-planned out parks to hold events of all types. It's rare that we can go into an area and find such a perfect location, especially with our criteria of having to be located on a body of water large enough to also host one of our Regional or National Championships", continued Talley.
The cook-off will feature top BBQ Competition Teams from all across the US. Teams will begin to arrive on Thursday and Friday, September 17th and 18th to prepare for the big day on Saturday, September 19th. The competition is judged in 4 meat categories: Chicken, Ribs, Pork and Brisket for the Professional Teams and 2 meat categories - Chicken and Ribs, for the Backyard Teams. All teams can also compete in the Sauce category and Dessert category. The event in Guntersville is also the Alabama State BBQ Championship as proclaimed by Governor Bob Riley. For competitors, that means they are offered a birth in both the Jack Daniels BBQ Championship and the Kansas City Royal Championship.
The public is invited out to enjoy the festivities of the day and meet the BBQ competition teams from across the country. Vendors of all types will be showing their products - including food vendors and the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Weekend Series weigh-in at 3:00pm followed by the BBQ Awards presentation at 4:30pm and then a concert featuring "Say It Ain't So" from Memphis,Tennessee. All activities are FREE to the public.
