Just when the outdoor television industry needs something new, along comes Weekend Warriors Cartoons -- animated shorts that have become the latest addition to the popular Sportsmen's Outdoor Strategies (S.O.S.) Television show now airing on Sportsman Channel Mondays at 6 a.m., Wednesday at 12 p.m. and Fridays at 12:30 p.m. EST. Sportsman Channel is available on DIRECTV channel 605 and numerous cable operators.
Sportsmen's Outdoor Strategies teamed up with award-winning outdoor cartoonist Bruce Cochran and outdoor writer J.J. Reich to deliver these packages of unique and fresh humor to the long-running show. In fact, Walker and introduces the segment like this: "Now, for something completely different!"
A 30- to 45-second animated cartoon airs at the end of each episode of Sportsmen's Outdoor Strategies in the 2009 season. Visit

The animated shorts star three characters that Cochran created and designed specifically for the Weekend Warriors series: Stanley, a middle-aged outdoor addict; Oliver, his younger, "still learning" sidekick; and Squirt, an intelligent canine companion that is doomed to cope with the silly antics of his owners.
Since the early 1960s, Bruce Cochran's cartoons and illustrations have added life and wholesome humor to the pages of North America's outdoor publications. His hand-drawn cartoons, illustrations and stories are published in national magazines, and he has over a dozen humorous cartoon books in print. Cochran has won many industry awards and honors. He is an avid hunter and fisherman, with 40 years' worth of experiences to inspire his cartoons and creations.
The Weekend Warriors team includes Reich, who coordinates and directs production and sales; Cochran, who creates the original jokes and storyboards for the series (
