Service Members to Be Honored At Military Appreciation Night
WHAT

When Army Spc. Jason Palmer returned to the United States after suffering injuries in Iraq, all he wanted was to embrace his 4-year-old daughter.

But something was stopping him. He would have to drive from Colorado to the Oregon coast, and his car needed repairs.

For assistance, Palmer turned to American Military Family Inc. (AMF), a Colorado Springs-based organization that provides financial support to service members and their families. AMF paid for Palmer's car repairs and gas, making the father-daughter reunion possible. When his wife quit her job to help Palmer manage a traumatic brain injury at the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Carson, AMF helped the couple put food on the table and take care of other everyday necessities.

"I wouldn't have been able to see my little girl if not for American Military Family Inc.," Palmer said. "We wouldn't have been able to get by, period, after Meghan quit her job. I am so thankful and owe so much to the organization."

To support military families such as the Palmers, TriWest Healthcare Alliance President and CEO David J. McIntyre, Jr., will present $25,000 to Debbie Quackenbush, founder of AMF, on Wednesday, July 1 before the Colorado Springs Sky Sox baseball game. As part of Military Appreciation Night, service members from Fort Carson, the United States Air Force Academy, and Buckley and Peterson Air Force Bases can also attend the game for free with a valid military ID card.

"Service members and their families sacrifice so much to protect our freedoms," McIntyre said. "Hosting events such as Military Appreciation Night tonight and contributing to organizations such as American Military Family Inc. is our way of giving back and saying thank you."
