FAIRFAX, Va. - The National Deer Alliance (NDA), along with several other conservation groups, recently sent a letter to Governor Cuomo to sign the proposed regulations included in the New York State Interagency CWD Risk Minimization Plan. The plan proposes regulatory changes and new action to minimize the risk of CWD entering or spreading in New York State. The plan is currently sitting with the Governor, unsigned.

“We applaud the great work of the impressive team that created New York’s CWD Risk Management Plan, but its recommendations can only be effective if they’re implemented fully,” said Nick Pinizzotto, president/CEO of National Deer Alliance. “The state remains vulnerable to infected deer being brought across the border from other states, and that’s unacceptable.”

The New York State Interagency CWD Risk Minimization Plan was put together well over a year ago by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos and New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner (Ag & Markets) Richard Ball.
