Three Charged in St. Michael’s College Poaching Incident

Tips on Social Media Lead to the Arrests

COLCHESTER, VT -- Public tips about illegal trespass and deer poaching on St. Michael’s College property in Colchester during December have resulted in three men being charged by Vermont State Game Wardens.

“We appreciate that at least two Vermont TV stations carried security camera photos of men trespassing and poaching deer on college property which resulted in people contacting us via social media with information that helped break this case,” said Colonel Jason Batchelder, Vermont’s chief game warden.

On February 13, Jeffrey Cameron, 54, of Colchester and Lawrence Grant, 48, of Winooski were charged with possession of illegal deer and criminal trespass. Each count of possession of illegal deer carries fines up to $2,000, sixty days in jail and loss of hunting, fishing and trapping licenses for three years.

Shawn Lussier, 43, of Colchester was charged with criminal trespass with a potential fine of up to $500 and three months in jail.

All three men are due in Chittenden Superior Court on March 26 to answer to the charges.
