Hornady Plans Open House for New Facility

(Grand Island, Nebr.) — Hornady, a fixture of the Grand Island, Nebraska business community for nearly 70 years, will open a new chapter in its history with a public open house for its new Hornady “West” facility on Friday, Oct. 26.

The open house will be from noon to 3 p.m. at 8350 W. Old Potash Highway, six miles west of the company’s main Grand Island facility.

A program at 1 p.m. will feature special guests Gov. Pete Ricketts, Mayor Jeremy Jensen, U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith. The public is welcome to attend the grand opening and may also participate in tours that will be available throughout the afternoon.

Hornady “West” represents the continued success and growth of the company, which J.W. Hornady founded in 1949 in a small shop on Fourth Street in Grand Island. Hornady opened its main plant just west of Grand Island in 1958.

In 2010 Hornady purchased 320 acres on the former Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant grounds to house not only this new facility, but also new R&D capabilities and other support services for the company’s production operations. The company broke ground on this new 150,000-square-foot production and shipping facility in 2017 and began to ship from this new location earlier this month.

The company will mark its 70th anniversary in 2019.
