Scholastic 3-D Archery Names Stacy Groce Kentucky State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Stacy Groce of Richmond, Kentucky as the new Kentucky State Coordinator. Stacy will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in Kentucky including tournaments, trainings and the division of the state into regions. Kentucky is currently divided into 3 regions: Eastern, Central and Western. Each year, since its inception, Kentucky has experienced tremendous growth in the number of archers participating. The 2019 indoor season has hit record numbers once again with the first Indoor Regional hosting 324 participating archers and the State Indoor with an incredible 452 archers. With even larger numbers projected for the 2019 3-D season, the schedule will consist of several dual-region tournaments: two tournaments on the same date in different regions of the state.

Stacy was born in Louisville, Kentucky but currently resides in Richmond, Kentucky with her husband, Randy Groce, whom she has been married to for 23 years, and their two children: Bethany (18) and Blake (16). Stacy currently works for Eastern Kentucky University in the School of Justice Studies. Stacy and Randy became interested in archery when their daughter, Bethany, joined the elementary NASP team. As she progressed, she became interested in shooting a more advanced bow with different equipment and in more varied disciplines. Later, their son, Blake, joined the NASP program and then became interested in shooting a more advanced bow as well. Stacy and Randy decided that their children were not going to have all the fun, so they joined in and began shooting local tournaments and ASA (Archery Shooters Association) tournaments.

KY State Coordinator, Stacy Groce, states “My family and I became a part of S3DA because it has such a positive impact on young archers. Archers experience self-discipline, team building skills, establish life-long friendships, college opportunities, etc. Not only do the young archers experience all of these things but parents share much of the same.”

Stacy has made a list of some of the goals that she would like to see accomplished in her time as the KY State Coordinator. These include the following: increase team & club memberships, drive student memberships up, introduce interested S3DA archers to bowhunting, and offer coaching clinics.

National Outreach Director, Chris McDonald, states “It has been an honor serving as KY’s State Coordinator for the past four years. The growth has been very impressive as well as challenging at times. My goal from the beginning was for KY to be a model program. I have had a tremendous amount of help from some great people and made lifelong friends along the way. The number one reward has been the opportunity to witness kids transform into amazing, successful, young adults. I really appreciate all the adults that have stepped up and have become coaches for our youth. I am not stepping away from KY S3DA but moving in a different direction to be able to spread S3DA to many more places. I still plan on being part of KY by taking a position on the KY State Chapter advisory board. Stacy did an outstanding job last season taking care of KY while I was out due to my house fire. She is very organized and technology literate. I have all the confidence in the world that Stacy will continue to grow and make KY a top-notch program.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
