During its October conference in Oxford, Miss., members of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) elected Emily George of Woodford, VA, to serve a two-year term on the organization’s board of directors. George is a Purdue graduate student studying Strategic Communications and Public Relations. She is one of the youngest members to ever fill a SEOPA director’s position.

“Emily George not only represents the future of outdoor communication, she brings a wealth of skill and enthusiasm to the board,” said SEOPA President Kevin Tate. “As a member of the SEOPA family, she knows the special nuances of tradition and innovation that make up the blend that binds our cast of characters together. SEOPA is fortunate to have access to her time and talents.”

George, who recently joined the Congressional Sportsman’s Foundation as the Policy and Communications coordinator, first garnered the attention of SEOPA officials when she posted a story on a website about her love of hunting and writing. She was invited to intern at the 2015 SEOPA conference where she was embraced by all and encouraged to pursue a career in the outdoors communications industry. “I wouldn’t be where I am without the Lord and SEOPA,” George said.

George is tailoring her studies to fit the outdoors industry in hopes of better communicating its mission. When she isn’t working or studying, George is outdoors. In addition to hunting, she enjoys gardening.
