“Chasin’ The Sun” Targets Topwater Redfish in Panama City Beach

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Anglers discover that topwater redfishing is a lesson in quick thinking and accurate casting in Top Redfish, the upcoming episode of “Chasin’ The Sun.” The latest episode of the show, featuring co-hosts Justin Leake and Travis Holeman, is presented by Visit Panama City Beach, and will air on Saturday, February 2 at 8:00 a.m. EST / 7:00 a.m. CST on Discovery Channel.

While most anglers are targeting red snapper on the season’s opening day, the “Chasin’ the Sun” crew avoids the crowd and goes in search of huge pre-spawn redfish. After all, savvy anglers know that big reds crushing topwater baits is a thrill not to be missed.

“Nowhere in the world will you find giant redfish on topwater like you do here in Panama City Beach,” says Capt. Leake. “When they move into areas where crabs are feeding, look out – it is game on!”

Justin is joined by his lifelong friend, Capt. Matt Smith, one of the few local fishing guides that fishes the inshore bay system exclusively. Since birds are not pinpointing fishing hotspots by bombing the water’s surface for baitfish, it is a sign that the crab hatch is underway and time for the captains to shift gears.

“As an angler, you are a master of observation,” says Capt. Travis Holeman. “You observe the environment and adjust appropriately to catch fish – and always try different approaches.”

Science, art and even a bit of luck steer Justin and Matt to the right place at the right time and they soon hook into a monster redfish.

Later, Leake and hard-charging “T-Bone” Holeman put the pedal to the metal in a mad dash to the finish line at Kartona, Panama City Beach’s indoor electric go-kart track.

The award-winning fishing and coastal lifestyle television program showcases the diverse angling, diving and cultural opportunities found in the emerald green waters of Panama City Beach. The sponsors for season four of “Chasin’ The Sun” include B&W Trailer Hitches, BOTE, Dulce Vida Tequila, Engel Coolers, Florida Fishing Products, Humminbird, Kicker, Latitude Tournament Boats, Minn Kota, Mojo Sportswear Company, Native Eyewear, Pirates Cove Marina, Power-Pole, Rapala Coastal, Royal American Beach Getaways, SeaDek, Sport Trail, TravisHoleman.com and Z-Man Fishing Products.

New episodes of “Chasin’ The Sun,” produced in partnership with Pinfish Media, will air weekly on Saturday mornings at 8:00AM Eastern / 7:00AM Central. Discovery Channel reaches nearly 100 million U.S. households.
