NDA Announces Virtual Meeting to Discuss Chronic Wasting Disease Management in Pennsylvania

The National Deer Association (NDA) has announced a virtual public meeting supported by the University of Pennsylvania to discuss Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in the state. NDA President and CEO Nick Pinizzotto will be joined by NDA’s Chief Conservation Officer, Kip Adams as well as Pennsylvania Game Commission’s CWD Coordinator, Andrea Korman, to discuss how and why to combat CWD in Pennsylvania and across the country. The virtual meeting will take place October 20, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Attendees should preregister for the event here.

CWD is currently the most significant threat to the future of healthy deer populations, deer hunting and the hunting industry. It is quickly becoming the biggest challenge to broad wildlife conservation that sportsmen and wildlife managers have encountered over the last century. First detected in Pennsylvania in 2012, CWD has continued to spread across the Commonwealth, including several positive deer being found in new areas this year. Data suggests that if no changes in CWD management are made, parts of Pennsylvania could eventually reach a 30 percent prevalence rate.

“Pennsylvania is really ground zero for not only a huge population of deer and deer hunters, but the battle we are facing with CWD,” said Pinizzotto. “This webinar is going to be a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about the issue, find out how they can help or just get a better understanding of the situation. Spreading this valuable knowledge is one of the best ways to combat the issue and we look forward to a big turnout and another avenue to help fight CWD.”
