MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Ducks Unlimited (DU) announced today that Zachary Hartman has been named DU’s new Chief Policy Officer (CPO). Hartman will begin his employment with DU on Oct. 1.

“We are pleased to have Zach joining our team to help accomplish our conservation mission through targeted policy efforts across the nation,” said DU CEO Adam Putnam. “With his wealth of experience, he will hit the ground running for DU’s priorities and focusing the passion of our nearly one million members into bipartisan solutions in state capitols and the halls of Congress.”

A native of Sarasota, Fla., Hartman most recently worked as the Director of Federal Affairs with Anheuser-Busch where he led federal legislative and regulatory policy issues for one of the world’s largest consumer product manufacturers. Prior to that, Hartman was the Senior Legislative Assistant for Senator John Boozman where he worked with House and Senate Agriculture Committees on the 2014 Farm Bill, 2012 Farm Bill proposal and the 2011 Farm Bill proposal.

“It’s an honor to have been chosen to lead DU’s policy efforts,” Hartman said. “I can think of no better way to spend the next chapter of my career than working with DU to conserve critical habitat and fill the sky with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever. I’m excited to join the team and build on the great work DU has accomplished.”

DU’s CPO plans, directs and oversees the policies relating to all phases of government relations in DU’s conservation efforts, and provides analysis on proposed legislation and regulations for possible impacts and effects on the organization. Along with keeping his finger on the pulse inside the Beltway and state capitals, Hartman will also plan and direct public policy conservation campaigns in support of DU’s organizational goals.
