Help Friends of Negwegon State Park raise funds through Giving Tuesday Northeast Michigan

Use the hashtag #GivingTuesdayNEMI

The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan and the Friends of Negwegon State Park are working together to help raise funds for the park through a special fundraising event: Giving Tuesday Northeast Michigan 2018 (or #GivingTuesdayNEMI), set for Nov. 27.

The 24-hour event will help the Friends of Negwegon, a volunteer nonprofit formed in 2009 to preserve and protect the park, continue to build an endowment fund with the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan. The endowment fund ultimately will help pay for stewardship, education and research work in the park, such as invasive species control, interpretive programming, dark sky events, and threatened and rare species research. All of these efforts are to help preserve this undeveloped park.

To make an online donation, visit cfnem.org/givingtuesday Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Select "Friends of Negwegon" and click the "Give Now" button. Every penny donated goes directly to the selected charity and benefits northeast Michigan.

Negwegon State Park is not a typical Michigan state park. The park encompasses approximately 4,200 acres of forest and wetland located on the shores of Lake Huron in Alcona and Alpena counties. The park is known for rare and threatened plant species as well as excellent trails, backcountry camping, a beautiful sand beach, a unique dune and swale complex, hunting and wildlife viewing. The park also is home to a Dark Sky Preserve.

Giving Tuesday is celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and was created to inspire people to give back, while collaboratively taking action to improve local communities.
