Master Officer Tony Mann awarded Conservation Officer of the Year

Hattiesburg, MS – During the May, 2019 TMA Members’ Conference held at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park (Ashland, NE), the TMA Board of Directors recognized Master Conservation Officer Anthony “Tony” Mann, Indiana DNR as the 2019 Conservation Officer of the Year.

The award came as a big surprise to Mann, who was attending the conference as one of the guest speakers. John Louk, TMA Executive Director and Lorne “LJ” Smith, Jr. (Master Trainer, Treestand Accident Investigation & Reconstruction Course) made the presentation.

Presenting the award, Mr. Smith made the following comments: “Since 2007, John and I have had the privilege of conducting 23 classes, trained over 500 Conservation Officers in 15 different states and Tony is among the best we’ve trained.”

Tony’s attributes include: committed to promoting treestand safety, encourages others of the importance of practicing treestand safety, teaches best practices of treestand safety to volunteer instructors and also hunter education students, fellow hunters and future hunters, takes a leading role in investigating hunting incidents and also maintaining detailed reports for evaluation.

Mann who has been a Conservation Officer with the Indiana DNR since 1990 currently serves as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Boat Accident Investigator, Full IDACS operator, Breath Test Operator, NASP Basic Instructor Trainer, Treestand Safety Instructor Trainer and also Treestand Accident Investigations & Reconstruction Investigator.

The Treestand Manufacturer’s Association (TMA) is a nonprofit trade association. For over 20 years, TMA has specifically devoted its resources to promoting treestand safety through education. It endeavors to improve treestand safety through the support of its members as well as fostering relationships with like-minded organizations.
