Palin, Uninterrupted
"A small town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except you have actual responsibilities."

With that sentence, Sarah Palin, Wasila, Alaska's former mayor turned Governor, and now Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, responded to Barack Obama's criticism of her qualifications while giving critics a small sampling of the straight talk they can expect as the campaign enters its final nine weeks. If her speech last night was any indication, Palin may give critics reason to consider their words carefully.

After accepting the Vice-Presidential nomination last night at the Republican National Convention, Palin told her story to party partisans and television viewers nationwide - without the interpretation of the "elite media".

Stoeger Suspends Publishing Operations

With the announcement that Stoeger Publishing was suspending publications, the latest editions of The Shooter's Bible (edition 100) and Gun Trader's Guide may themselves become collector items.
The Outdoor Wire has confirmed that Stoeger Publishing, one of the nation's foremost publishers of outdoor hunting, fishing and firearms books, is suspending publishing.

Although no definite date was provided to The Outdoor Wire, Stoeger/Benelli officials have confirmed the decision. Jeff Reh, President, Stoeger Industries and Vice General Manager of Beretta USA, ultimate owner of the soon-to-be-defunct publishing group confirmed the closure but would not say Stoeger Publishing was being dissolved.

"Though we might re-open our publishing activities at some later date," Rea said in a statement to The Outdoor Wire, "soft market conditions have compelled this decision for the foreseeable future."

Stoeger may be best known for its flagship publications, The Shooter's Bible and Gun Trader's Guide. Both are recognized in the industry as being among the definitive reference works on firearms and shooting.

Since its beginning in 1924, Stoeger grown to become one of the mainstays of the outdoor publishing industry, offering a widely diversified list of titles from across the outdoor interest groups, from Pocket Guides covering topics as varied as fishing to surviving disasters, outdoor fiction and cookbooks covering anything from catfish to Dutch ovens.

Stoeger marked its place in the forefront of outdoor book publishing earning coveted positions on several best-seller lists as well as receiving creative and editorial recognition for a number of its titles.

It appears, however, that accolades are not enough to keep the presses rolling.
